People criticize Metrotown's suburban street grid, large blocks, and the enormous mall cutting off the pedestrian experience, but the aerial comparison to Mississauga is really eye-opening. Metrotown clearly has a much more urban layout with more mid-level density, yet it has much more green space at the same time. Central Park and Deer Lake are massive, beautiful trail systems that can almost feel like provincial parks once you're a few hundred yards into them.

Obviously Metrotown has a lot of room for improvement (in terms of nightlife and street culture especially IMO), but I think Lower Mainlanders sell it short a little bit. It's a nice place already and will feel like a serious urban destination once Station Square, Beresford Street, the Sears redevelopment, and the skytrain renovations are all complete.
