^ I don't know why you'd use geothermal in Vancouver, with it's temperate climate air to air heat pumps should work just fine. For the massive cost and relative little return from a geothermal system you're better off installing a boiler for those few days when it gets too cold for the refrigeration cycle to effectively transfer heat from outside to inside

I don't know why on earth they would consider a two pipe system for Blatchford. Sounds like a huge waste of money and an unnecessarily complicated system. I think they should have kept it a single pipe and supplemented the hot side with waste heat from a natural gas cogen system. Too late now though.. apparently they've already got the pipes in the ground.

I bet it's all political, as the article states. The city is in over their heads on this one and when all the details spill out someone is going to end up looking pretty bad in the end and cost the city millions.
