Many "postmodernist" buildings (as they are called) today look absolutely NOTHING like art deco, so don't even begin to compare them. The only similarity is that they use stone. Nothing else. They don't convey the class and art deco integrity like the 30s buildings. There are only a rare few pomo buildings that manage to successfully pull off the true modern art deco look, for example, the Minneapolis Wells Fargo Center and Guangzhou Pinnacle.
If architects put a bit more thought into their work and stick to the true rules of art deco, who knows? Pomo might become much better.
Of course, that's just my opinion.
