I'm happy to report that one of the houses of Berkeley Square that has been heretofore photographically obscure is no longer a mystery. Number 10, home of at least four prominent Los Angeles families—the Taylors, the Reilleys, the Sterns, and the Allens—lasted from 1911 to 1962, when the Santa Monica Freeway plowed through the south side of the subdivision and condemnations for the Los Angeles School District took most of the balance. A recently unearthed newspaper photograph from 1925 serves as the basis for the illustration above.
