Aside from being the country's busiest bridge, the federal gvt considers the Champlain bridge to be a vital piece of national infrastructure as it serves vital overland shipping routes between Canada and the USA. And as mentioned above the bridge also traverses another vital piece of infrastructure: the seaway.
