Wenlock Hospital is now fully dedicated to testing, treatment

The Government Wenlock Hospital has now been completely dedicated to COVID-19 treatment and diagnosis.

The process of shifting started on March 27 and completed on March 29. Hospital Superintendent Sadashiva said while some were discharged, others were shifted to eight hospitals of private medical colleges in the city. Destitute people were moved to a community health centre and the destitute rehabilitation centre in Pachhanady, he said. Doctors and health staff of the Wenlock Hospital were now working in shifts for COVID-19 cases, he said.

The district administration first set up an isolation block in the hospital’s administration block. The isolation block has now been shifted to the 20-bed AYUSH block of the hospital. The newly built super speciality block has also been dedicated for COVID-19.

Two of 20 rail coaches converted into isolation cabins for Covid-19 patients

These coaches will soon be handed over to health department in order to deal with the ongoing situation, said public relations officer of souther railway’s Palakkad division Gopinathan, on Wednesday April 1.

In order to construct the isolated ward, the middle berth has been removed from one side of the coach, while all three berths have been removed in front of patient berth. Also all ladders for climbing up the berths have been removed. The bathrooms, aisle areas and other areas have also been modified.

These coaches also will have spaces for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff besides arrangements to fix medical equipment.

As on April 1, 5,875 are under home quarantine in Dakshina Kannada district while 27 persons are placed under quarantine in ESI hospital.

"People can avail of ambulance services for emergency medical needs. Doctors, nurses, paramedics, hospital administrators will be allowed to go in their private vehicle during their transit from home to place of work. Media fraternity will be allowed if they have a valid pass issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations," she said.

The DC has ordered for the shifting of all wholesale vegetable vendors from Central Market in Mangaluru to the APMC yard in Baikampady. The entry of public barring retailers have been prohibited to the APMC yard. The public should purchase vegetables and grocery from the shops near to their houses, she appealed.

Further, she said the wholesale supply of grocery in the Bunder area will be continued. However, the wholesalers should stop selling grocery items to the general public at the Bunder area. Grocery items can be unloaded from vehicles in the Bunder area from 7 am to 12 noon. While wholesalers can supply grocery items to retailers from 1 pm to 7 pm, in Bunder.

In rural areas,grocery items and food items can be transported in light vehicles. For medical emergency,public can dial 108 and 1077.

Hope people will not misuse trucks carrying essential commodities for travelling.

Accordingly, arrangements have been made to transport six tonnes of Mattu Gulla to different parts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts and 82 tonnes of watermelons to Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Dharwad districts. While 13 tonnes of pineapple will be transported to Dakshina Kannada and Shivamogga, 10 tonnes of papaya will go to Uttara Kannada.
