Kotkin talks about the Oakland metropolitan region as opposed to what? The SF region because Schmidt was interviewed by the SF Chronicle? It's the same damn region, where is he getting his numbers from?
With California you get to pick and choose the numbers you want to support your argument and leave out what doesn't. His whole argument seems to indicate that the rest of the country, and world, should be thanking CA for all of the job creation the globe over.
