Mumbai High Court Rules on Illegal Construction at the Palais Royale

Quote:
In a fresh setback for one of India's tallest skyscrapers, Palais Royale at Worli, the Bombay High Court held on January 27 that the top 13 floors of the 56-story building, as well as a 15-story public parking tower next to it, were “completely illegal.”

A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice C V Bhadang called it a “brazen defiance” of rules and has left it to the municipal commissioner to decide the fate of these two structures. Shree Ram Urban Infrastructure Ltd (SRUIL) has been allowed to apply for fresh commencement and development permission from the Brihanmumbai Municpal Corporation (BMC) for the parking tower as well as for regularizing the 13 floors. Whether any of the 13 upper floors can be saved would depend on the BMC's decision. They have four months to decide on the issue.
