I'm not opposed to "smart and unified" branding. I am opposed to stupid branding. Which is what this is. Good for them.
As for why people react emotionally. If they didn't, there be no need for marketing at all right? The whole point is a play on emotions. When the emotions you elicit are hostile, you've done something wrong.
