KALAMAZOO — Got several million dollars and an idea for redeveloping the buildings on Western Michigan University’s historic East Campus for a new use?

Seeking proposals from private firms, WMU is moving forward with plans to find a developer or developers with ideas to remake the campus that contains its first building, East Hall, and several others.

“The eventual use of these buildings does not have to be university-related, but it cannot run counter to the mission of WMU,” Bob Miller, WMU associate vice president for community outreach said in a news release.

“The architectural integrity of any building selected for redevelopment must be preserved, but other than that, we’re wide open to any economically viable idea,” he said.

University officials, on a list of major building projects, estimated it would take around $100 million to renovate the buildings.

.......
Finally, they seem to be getting serious about redeveloping one of Michigan's hidden treasures.
