Well, yes it does stick out like a sore thumb, and from the top of the Grande Arche in La Defense it ruins the view of the Eiffel Tower - it is literally right behind it on the horizon.
BUT, we must remember that there are always two sides to the argument. Some of my close family live in Paris and they say you do get the best views of the city from the top of the tower - mainly because you can see Paris with the Eiffel Tower, rather than Paris from the Eiffel Tower.
Plus apparently its free to go up, which is much better than the extortionate prices to go up the ET.
(And I don't think it looks that bad - it's no Chrysler Building but its a damned sight better than some)
