While we're in this area of the Sunset Strip and discovering more about the Clover Club, I thought I'd add this interesting tidbit.

“Keep Chicago out of Hollywood- Close Clover Club Gambling Joint."

"Anti-gambling signs on a vacant lot owned by the Coyne family, adjacent to the Casanova Club, 8383 Sunset Blvd, c. 1837-1938.
Similar signs located on vacant lots at 8381 and 8373 Sunset Blvd. mysteriously caught fire in the wee hours of August 27, 1933."

Obviously there's a very interesting back-story to this.
Who is the Coyne family? (their doesn't name come up once in the NLA search)
What did the police do about the burnt signs (I forget who had jurisdiction back then),
Was there an investigation into the property damage?
