I think the design is reminiscent of a lot of supersized Hindu temples in India, which are similarly very massive and monolithic and have ribbed surfaces.

This could be one of those things where an Easterner and a Westerner have totally different opinions on the way this building looks. I would hate to see something like this being built in the U.S., but in Mumbai it fits in and will do fine.

I think it's good that different cultures and cities employ really different architectural styles.
