9 Aug, 2007, 1615 hrs IST, PTI

MUMBAI: Compact Disc on Thursday said it will set up an animation studio at the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) SEZ at an initial investment of 12.40 million dollars (nearly Rs 50.2 crore).

"This is a significant milestone for the Indian animation industry, as for the first time an integrated animation studio will enable producers to develop films at just one studio, Compact Disc Chairman Suresh Kumar informed BSE.

"Initially, we aim to develop three animation films in partnership with international media agencies and MNCs," he added.

The studio, with an initial capital of 12.40 million dollars and commencing by October, would be spread out over a space of 60,000 sq ft and would employ over 300 people, the animation Outsourcing company said.

The company has asked KINFRA Special Economic Zone (SEZ) authorities to provide space on lease rental basis for their incubation centre to start operations immediately.

KINFRA is India's first SEZ developed exclusively for animation and gaming.

Shares of the company were last trading at Rs 60.35, up 4.96 per cent on BSE.
