Elbow Falls West of Calgary in the snow and sun

Took a drive west of Calgary into Kananaskis Country and the falls on the Elbow river. The river runs east and goes through Calgary

This is a few miles south west of Calgary

The trees on the walk to the falls

It is a short walk to the falls. This is looking east to the falls. They aren't too big, about a 10 foot drop and 15 to 20 feet around.

A close up of the top of the falls

The ice at the top of the falls

The water is so beautifully clear

Looking west to the river running to the falls

The rocks on the south side of the falls

There are a lot of places to go near the falls and to look down on them

The pathway to the lookout above the falls

Looking back at the falls. As I said they aren't too big

Looking back at the river running to the falls and the rocks on the south side. There are a lot of places for peolpe to walk out into the river

Beautiful shots! The falls aren't very big, but they are tricky to photograph. We're lucky to have such beauty close to town. My next door neighbour was out there today, and earlier when she told me she was going I was wondering how much ice there was at the falls. Now I know!
I also like Sheep Falls on Sheep Creek, not nearly as popular.

There's so much beauty and such diverse scenery all within a fairly short drive of Calgary; you folks are fortunate.

It looks like winter must be loosening its grip.

Sorry I am slow replying. I believe it is about 50 miles from the dowtown area, proably only about 35 miles form the southwest boundary of Calgary. the first picture is very close to the SW boundary of Calgary.
