San Rafael, CA (Marin County)

I spent part of Memorial Day weekend hanging out in Marin County, north of San Francisco, which has a lot of really neat, mostly affluent communities, crammed between the many mountain ridges that make up the rugged topography. According to wikipedia, the 2000 census listed Marin County as having the highest per capital income in the US. It is very beautiful and provides some of the greatest fews of SF. Here are a few I took:

Enough of the city, back to Marin...

San Rafael (pop 55,550) is the county seat and, I believe, the largest city in Marin County. San Rafael has a nice and relatively active downtown. I don't think it has quite reached its potential, but, there is a lot of positive development going on. And on a random note, my father was actually born here in 1954.

This is such a crazy coincidence, but just this morning I was searching Flickr for photos of San Rafael. I was just curious what its downtown looked like. Your photos have given me a much better idea than what I was able to find on there. Thanks for the nice pics!

Well, I'm glad to have helped. Truth be told I was running out of daylight as well as memory on my camera and couldn't take all the photos I wanted. San Rafael probably deserves a better treatment because I really think it has a lot going for it, especially for a city its size.

Very nice photos, and those views of San Francisco you captured are quite impressive.

I have to admit Marin County is one of those counties I know very little about. Of course I've been to Sausalito, but its also been several years since I've been. Usually when I visit that area just has not attracted my attention as much.

Anyway seeing your photos of San Rafael makes me think I might be missing some real gems in that county.
