New Medium-Sized International Airport U/C

Hallo!

Just thought I'd post a new international airport I'm working on (The design will be different than the renderings below...they're just to test a render of the building architecture itself). Everything (except the jetways) was created by me in the bottom 3 renderings. I wish the glass were more transparant so you could see the girder work I did on the interior. I'm also having trouble making the glass reflective without making it a mirror. Help anyone?

Comments appreciated!

Thanks! Yeah, the tile is pretty big...it's an admittedly poor method of making taxiway apron textures. But it's not permanent, I'll find a way to make a replacement texture.

Finished the food court, which, honestly, I'm really proud of. I took a lot of inspiration from KSNA (Santa Ana Orange County Intl. Airport), but I'm very pleased with the end result.

Sorry for the non-renderings, still trying to figure out how to make transparant glass on Kerkythea.

Hahaha, good point...I'll have to find a way to fit that in there.

Added some aircraft and gates

Great, a new airport. I love the details but the design is a little plain. I love the atrium though, it looks bad ass.

Hahahaha

I painted all of the planes from scratch...really long and grueling, took me about 30 minutes per plane on average, with some taking over an hour. The actual plane models aren't mine though (though I have heavily edited some like the Dash 8 Q400)...they were made by a guy with the Google username WilliamT.

I have about 12 different aircraft in about 70 different variations of US airline liveries, so it's taken me a helluva long time to complete my collection.

I know what you mean, the design is very plain. Unfortunately, that is basically the airport design of the future: big long straight and parallel terminals...yawn. Fortunately, I will likely alter the design in time, because I'm sort of the old fashioned 60's O'Hare airport design enthusiast.

Thanks for the compliments on the atrium...actually, I'd be incorrect to say that it's done...I'll likely add more to it in the future.

I'm also changing this project idea from a mid-size international airport to, well, "if I designed the Boise Airport, this is how I would've done it." sort of thing. Interesting thing to note, all of the airplanes you see above are airplanes you'd see if you were in Boise around 6am. At least, judging by airline schedules.

just fantastic BA, just great.
The detail of the lounge is tremendous.
Nice that you're doing a mid-size airport. Are 777-1 the plastic dreamliners going to be present? I couldn't found any model of it yet.

It's really hard to design curved surfaces, I can barely do it with ships.
Tried an airliner once - like austin siad, pretty much holled out bullet

Please DO keep it up.

the night-shotsof your previous airport were incredible, but i guess you have too much detail on this one to add lights.

I'm definately going to try lights with this one, but I wouldn't hold my breath...I've been experimenting a lot with lights at airports, and not once have I done as good a job as I did when I first tried it. I'll definately make an attempt though.

I used to when I was a lot younger, but for some reason I stopped, I guess it was pretty expensive. I'd love to start collecting again, but because I'm just starting College, it probably won't happen for a while. It is a dream of mine to someday build a full sized 1:400 model airport though.

You got me inspired, by the way, I tried working with some lights. This was highly experimental, so bear with me.

More testing...just changing the colors and transparancy of the glass now that I've figured it out.

Woah! That's awesome! The last shot is the best. Great reflections and the one from inside the atrium at night looks really good even though the glass reflects a lot. Will you be adding the airway soon or are yuu just going to work on the terminal for now?

I'm just going to work on the terminal until it's for the most part complete. I've tried putting the runway in earlier, but it's really complex designing a realistic taxiway structure, making it look real, and often it sort of wears me out on the project idea.

Oh cool! the night shots were great, nothing like the feel of an airport by dark.

1:400, the big ones? I mean the 1:500 Herpa or Schabak or even Matchbox, an MD88 the wingspan of a extra short cigarrete.

I don't have many, they ARE expensive, but I'm working on a small airport for them.

Moar photoss! I've been adding trucks and such at the gates, but my kerkythea renderings are sometimes starting to come out really funky...where the sky is normal but the model itself is extremely ultra dark. I was only able to make one good rendering. (Note: I didn't make any of the ground vehicles, they were all Google components or found on 3D warehouse.)

Comments always appreciated!

Sweet. Will this be for the SSP city?

The ramps are very cool along with the whole model.
I reckon the pitch of the terminal roof's are a bit steep though.
