Indeed, it will be a good litmus test for "neighbourhood activists". I'd put myself halfway in the "Parisian-style" camp, in that I believe that density can be achieved in Ottawa without everything being tall and skinny. I don't demonize height, but I don't fetishize it either. This is exactly the sort of development that I'd like to see along a main street like Richmond: a poor quality 2 story commercial and surface parking lot replaced with 6-8 stories of residential and retail at the ground. If I were living in the neighbourhood, I'd be over the moon to see this going in. If I were in the market for a condo, I'd be signing up for the preview.
I'm sure the homeowners directly adjacent on Clifton will exhibit some handwringing, but if the community in general is not supportive I will be very disappointed.
