A few days in Philly

I visited Philadelphia for a few days in last october.

Some of my first impressions of the city : it feels a lot less gentrified than New York, actually Philadelphia looks like what I imagine New York could look like in the 1980's. Some areas seemed kinda ghetto, especially the hoods in North Philly where I ventured looking for the filming locations from the Rocky's saga. There were also a lot of beggars in downtown. On a more positive note, the city feels vibrant and cool, and has lot to offer, while being a lot less crowded by tourists than New York. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is very interesting : a lot less crowded than any of New York's art museums, but still as impressive.

I can remember 59 is what you posted in response to my shocked note about the Bordelais ordering the Parisians to go home.

And they're cynically doing this to us, just because Parisians moving over there cause the increase of prices on their real estate market.

The fact that smaller cities would somehow be the victims of the capitalist establishment based in NYC or in Paris is no fair excuse.
I'm only asking, how could things ever change positively if they harshly turn us down as if we all were obnoxious jerks?

They'd better build more things in their towns instead of acting like nimbys. Rejecting immigrants from Paris or New York is nothing less than disgusting nimbyism in my opinion.
And the same might go to Nantes, huh.

BTW, the guy with the paperwork in #5 is Edmund Bacon, Kevin Bacon's dad. And I grew up around the corner from the Ukrainian Cathedral (building with the gold dome) in #33 .

Yes of course they are authentic. From late Middle Ages or early Renaissance.
But these kind of complete armors were rather for showing off, and not really for fighting. They probably belonged to some wealthy little princes.

Nice pics. I really like Philly. I think, at street level, in the good parts, it's as nice as any city in the Americas.

And I agree; it's the U.S. city most similar to NYC, but a much smaller, grittier, 1970s-80's version of NYC.

i walked only a few blocks away from city hall into an area that had seen better days, and through a drug sale on the sidewalk by a catholic school. i almost expected to get jumped for my camera but nothing happened.
