So I guess it is getting all the same uniform brick without any silly business mixed in. Why they elected to start halfway up still perplexes me. Its also strange that a bunch of it was Bluskinned but some of it seemingly wasnt? On the podium there is also parts that are Bluskinned and other parts that are Glassroc.
Nonetheless... this thing is looking really good. I'd say it's almost on par with The Dale. Dale gets the edge with the much better roofline but I'll reserve final judgment until the end.
I was giddy with joy on my walk yesterday and saw it in its current state. The balconies are hilariously small though, just like Loop, so that is unfortunate.
In regards to the brick.. the upper portion is a light grey with a hint of tan. The lower portion is a dark brown with a hint of grey. I think they compliment each other perfectly and are great colors on their own if you ask me. The glass also works perfectly with the grey/greenish spandrel with the black. Had they used the usual silver aluminum I would have taken a melon baller to my eyes. The black is such an obvious choice and its really will done and so minimal in size.
There are basically 3 overall materials being used without any funky business. Just overall classy.
Is it an award winner? Is it going to be in any magazine other than maybe OBJ? Hell no. Does it need to be? Nope. This is a perfect happy medium. This should be the benchmark for any new build that isn't trying to push the boundaries. Compare this to the AC Marriot. They are similar buildings in a way, with the glass wall on one side. Night and day difference.
It's clean and simple and I can't wait to see it finished.
