San Diego, CA

Tour of California

Part one: Los Angeles
Part two: Pasadena, Glendale, Hollywood, Burbank
Part three: Riverside, Santa Ana, Long Beach
Part four: San Jose

Part five: San Diego

Here is a collection of pictures from my recent trip to San Diego. I have only visited SD previously twice in my life, once when I was 12 and another time five years ago. Both times I didn't get to see much more than the waterfront and the zoo. The majority of these are taken by me, but, a few from my friend Kelly who joined me are also included where indicated. Hope you enjoy.

The fog welcomes us!

A little bit of San Diego sprawl before we land.

Trains and planes on the way to breakfast

Kelly enjoys her coffee at Hob Nob Hill, which is a very nice place for breakfast if you are ever in the neighborhood!

Balboa Park

Skyscraper hunting in downtown

A good portion of downtown, particularly away from the waterfront (and especially around the civic center area) is need of more redevelopment. But, has lots of potential.

Things get livier as you head towards Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp District

There's me - don't you love taking pictures of your friends taking pictures!?

Horton Plaza

Thanks Kelly for this one ^^

Glad to see they converted this old building for a Ralph's...

...Fits in well with the rest of the neighborhood

< < Kelly again

The preservation and adaptation of the old buildings in this area is incredible.

Waterfront condos and more

Not my favorite buildings, but, the Hyatt demands to be seen

Ok, one more...

Now we're talking...

I fell in love with this one the last time I was here

More trains...

On the Harbor

Once again, the Hyatt hogs the skyline

Finally, the sun come out!

One last shot of the city...and me thanks Kelly!

Now for a complete change of pace, next stop...Fresno

Great pictures of a beautiful looking city - really enjoyed it! Thanks.

The greenhouse in Balboa park is clearly based on this one in Kew Gardens London (built by Decimus Burton in 1848):

Hey great job. I really want to get there sometime soon.

Why were some of the photos cloudy. I thought it was sunny 100% of the time there?

Nice job, you copy cat you. Some of the same shots I took on the same streets, and its like I could reflect back to the days I walked and took the bus/train around the city a few months ago.

BTW I can't wait to see your Fresno photos. I was just up the week up til Labor Day. It was so freaking hot, I didn't go out to much for pictures. I did get some of Old Town Clovis, so when I get a chance I'll post them. Some photos I would have love to capture would have been hard anyway because I need some elevation. There are very few muti-story parking gararges high enough to get what I wanted. Man did I see some awesome views, especially over the valley from the 41 freeway and looking over to the Sierras. Anyway I hope you caught some good ones.

The majority of days start off cloudy here. Stereotypes.

Despite the fact that everyone who lives there seems to be so damn chipper, I'd love to visit that city. For more than an afternoon and that's saying something coming from me when we're talking about places with ample sunshine.

Sunshine. Ugh!

San Diego, after walking around downtown myself about 2 yrs ago, still has lots of room for development and a long way to go before build out. But it is already awesome in it's current condition... So that tells you this city is gonna continue to get more and more popular throughout our lifetimes. It really is one of the most beautiful in the country. Great pics!

Horton plaza was weird... I walked through it basically on accident when I was there and I was like "WTF is this place?" i had never heard of an open air mall... I'm from the chilly northeast!

Wow, if you take out the pictures of the waterfront, it looks almost like San Jose...
