Sonora, CA

California Gold Country:

Part 1: Grass Valley, Nevada City, Auburn
Part 2: Coloma, Placerville, Amador City, Sutter Creek
Part 3: San Andreas, Angel's Camp, Jackson

Part 4:

Sonora, CA (pop 4,423)

The county seat of Tuolumne County, this was by far our favorite stop on our trip down Highway 49 and where we stayed the night. The city had the most active downtown with loads of people walking around, friendly locals, and some great places to eat. Highly recommended.

Located on top of a hill near downtown, this looked like it use to be a high school, but, now is a school administration building.

Looking over downtown

Our hotel...decent place

The dome sits atop the school admin building

Ugly building, but, great BBQ

The greenest place in town is a parking garage

Doesn't look particularly sonoran like the desert, the trees are so lush!

I assume many places use that name. What's it mean?

What a beautiful setting for a town. And close to Yosemite.
