Tower one is topped out at 14 floors. I can see it very clearly from my street. Tower two is unexcavated, but rumored to begin next summer.

Crane has been down for about a month. Most windows are in. Quite upscale, right in the hinterlands of Hyde Park (land of waiting in your car)

I moved into Oakridge in 2000 - back when Walmart was still in Oakridge Mall. Hyde Park was still quite quiet back then too.

It was when the "SmartCentre" went in around 2004-2005 that Hyde Park changed for the worse. I know the developer paid to upgrade Fanshawe Park Rd. at the time of development of the Smart Centre. I'm guessing a requirement could have been made of Hyde Park Rd. too.

However, a nice bypass of the intersection of Gainsborough and Hyde Park probably would have been nice. there was tons of room 5 years ago, now it's all swallowed up to the east of it by development and more suburbia.

Here's a map because I was bored:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...f6cc5a83b2eff7

The old railway that went up through Ilderton has a great ROW width of 30 meters as well. Sure it's multi-use path right now, but I think the old alignment could be developed into a ped/bike friendly corridor through the actual village centre.

Really offtopic - but wonder if any of you have seen this before: http://maps.google.ca/?ie=UTF8&hq=&h...06845&t=h&z=18

^I am rather intrigued. I know the area you speak of very well, as a resident of Hyde Park. The ROW width is currently abuting parkland...

I agree with the need (desparate!) for a by-pass of Hyde Park. What the hell were they thinking when they rezoned to permit that huge shopping district? Oh, it will be great for London, but traffic will not increase along Hyde Park Road? C'mon Anne Marie and Council! The village could have been a quaint destination, but now it is basically a linear parking lot 10 hours per day.

I'm almost tempted to forward my idea onto the City, and just let them know. I know Hyde Park is one of several roads with a Long Term Growth strategy being implemented.

the biggest hurdle is the CP overpass for the former rail-line. Currently it's narrow, quick measure gave me 15 metres, although it would be significantly reduced with the angle of the approaches, while the existing overpass on Hyde Park Road has plenty of room for road expansion underneath.

Even a realignment north of the CP overpass would be feasible, although paving over a SWM pond wouldn't go over well I think...haha.

This isn't quite what you think - that is a Sauwastika, a symbol used in Hinduism and Buddhism. It happens to be a mirror of the Swastika of Nazi Germany.
