God I hope they build this thing. Im from houston and go back every now and again, downtown is a lot nicer then it was just a few years ago before the train came through, but still it could be so much better. All of those damned parking lots have to go and the hobos too. Thats whats really keeping people away is all of those homeless people on Main Street that always ask for my money, everytime! If they got rid of them, downtown could flourish.

Embassy Suites

What's the status on the Embassy Suites?
I remember reading about that a few months ago, but haven't heard anything. Is it under construction yet?

Photohinterland: Yes I agree. I think this tower would make a nice impression on the skyline. I hope it comes through.

Manus: It's not started yet. We shall see.

Its great to see all of those lots being filled by buildings, I dont even care if they are only 30 stories, Im just glad downtown is getting more dense. Now only if they wouldnt destroy all of those old buildings around the ballpark. Why do they tear down old buildings when there are so many parking lots, kinda dumb if you ask me. This is the most development downtown has seen in almost 10 years or more. Awesome!

I guess in many cases it would be cheaper to raze the building than to spend more $ preparing it for their intended use.

It depends on the direction you'd be looking from, though since it's not being built, that won't be an issue.

The building Hines currently has planned for this lot would stick out even less, from the west anyway. From the east, it should have some visibility on that side of the emerging skyline.

A shame. It doesn't look too bad but everybody's watching proposals bite the dust now.
