Hainan is really beautiful, but it's got a bad image problem in Shanghai at the moment. Everyone that I know that has gone, and I mean everyone, complained about the pushy and rude locals that try and scam you at every turn (in the Sanya area anyway). The beaches and water aren't very clean either. Complains on the internet and in newspapers like Shanghai Daily about this are common as well.

Now that Mainland Chinese citizens have the ability to travel abroad much easier, I think Hainan has to step its game up, and realize that places like Vietnam and the Phillippines are cheaper and more exotic to Mainland Chinese. I'd hate to see Hainan become a tourist ghost town due to its own greed.

Fantastic photos, Lhasaguy!
