This is big news and Hamilton needs the jobs. So, pros & cons?

Pros
- Hamilton gets more jobs
- One more company paying property tax (and it's a lot of property!)

Cons
- It's a net job loss for the rest of Ontario / Canada
- Council is probably going to be butthurt that they were kept in the dark about it

cons: no doubt we once again offered them the servicing at a giant discount just like Canada Bread, maybe tax breaks. More brownfields created in other places and greenfields taken away here.

Cons: people are going to complain where ever it went. If its in Brown field we would be hearing "see ou didn't need the Red Hill, companies love Brown Fields" Its on Green Fields and its oh dang we could have had them on brown fields.

People are never happy. Its taxes people going into the city and not coming from its residence how is this anything but bad.

People need to give there heads a shake.

Maple leafs has been huge for Hamilton.

Only thing that would be better is if they moved there head office to the top part of 100 King West.

if you're an urban planner you should look into the deal before you make these kinds of statements. How long before the servicing costs are paid off by the rest of us? Hopefully they haven't moved away by then. As for the comment about brownfields, you've managed to make almost no sense at all there. As though complaining against a highway had anything to do with complaining against greenfield development.

Seeing as the new plant will be adding $2 mil annually to the tax revenue stream, plus an extra $1 mil per year in water fees, it won't take long at all to recoup the cost of servicing this business park. And sooner, as more tenants fill the remaining real estate in the business park. Let's not forget the $2.5 mil development fees we'll be collecting from Maple Leaf too. But all that is nothing in comparison to the approx $50 million in annual paycheques that will be issued on site.

As a side note, I have it on good authority that the pasta plant that Maple Leaf has on Brockley will be continuing operations and is not affected by the restructuring announced this week.

So what your saying is that every thing that gets built should be going on Brownfield.

Im glad your not on council ebcause we would have lost out on a pile of jobs as well as tax revenues and development fees.

You complaining about paying it off as a tax payer. This in fact add to our tax base.

And my sace of highway vs greenfeild only makes that point that peoplein Hamilton are never satisfied. Well most cities its like that. Honeslt if Hamilton stayed just as it is today I would be happy, This city is awesome. yes it has its problesm but as anyone with half a brain on this fourm knows that every city has its problems.
