Oshawa (Durham) developments & news

Uoit also has a massive plan to bring much development into the core

http://www.durhamregion.com/news/edu...article/175711

Anyone know what happened to the Genosha Hotel? Ran out of money?
I think eventually it will be completed as UOIT is putting massive investment into the core, & I can already see some of the effects.

Recent improvements to Oshawa downtown.

-Mr sub being turned into a coffee shop (simcoe & bond)
-Chex tv station on simcoe
- Court house
- Alger press building (So happy they kept the old smoke stack)
- UOIT health and sciences building
- gm center

I'm excited to see the core grow & turn Oshawa into a real city again.
we need the tallest buildings to be something better then the Non-quon towers & in the core.

I agree! I live in Oshawa and love the city.. I dont know why people choose Whitby or Courtice instead.. I work in Toronto but have everything I need in Oshawa.

UXBRIDGE -- Plans to construct a large energy efficient office building in downtown Uxbridge are inching closer to reality.

First presented to council in the summer of 2007 and with zoning approved in August 2008, the First Leaside building project, at Brock Street and Victoria Drive, received funding through the Township's Community Improvement Plan in 2009.

Uxbridge council recently passed a bylaw authorizing the Township to distribute funding from the Regional Revitalization Program to the First Leaside project.

While the project has faced many "challenges," in particular the soil remediation process, an official with the company is optimistic construction will begin as soon a building permit is received from the Township.

The 40,000-square-foot building will still incorporate the same design that garnered a Canadian Architect Awards of Excellence in 2008, except it will no longer feature geo-thermal heating.

"We found the site was just not suitable for geo-thermal, so it will use high efficiency gas instead," noted Joan Wilson, director of special projects for First Leaside.

As a result the foundation had to be re-engineered, but other than that the design will continue as originally planned.

"It will still achieve LEED platinum certification," she added.

Thats really different from anything thats been built in Uxbridge ever! Looks amazing, even small/medium cities have a hard time getting this kind of development.

it will definitely stand out. unfortunately it originally planned to have 12,000 square feet of retail on the main floor, but that got scrapped. hopefully it will help revitalize downtown Uxbridge, as it is getting quite rundown, even with the recent re-landscaping of the main street.
