Vernon's new hospital building sure is ugly as hell. I do like the barren hills around though.

Vernon is misleading. It has the feel of about 30k, but it's surrounding areas spread out over a fair bit of area.

The City itself (Vernon that is) has about 35000. The adjacent areas, both incorporated and non-incorporated areas have probably another 20000. Those areas are residential and rural for the most part which is probably what gives the misleading feeling.

It would be nice if they started to build up but my recollection from growing up there is that people aren't so much into that. 25 years later and it still looks pretty much the same as when I left except that there are houses where there use to be grassland (well, thats my take - I get back at least twice a year so the change is gradual for me).

I like the fact that it is gradual change. Vernon always had a slower pace than Kelowna, that's what a lot of people like about it. However, I find the changes in the past 15 quite substantial... I remember when 30th avenue was almost dead, now it is very lively, The whole power center on the north end of town is new, Most of the downtown heavy commercial businesses have moved and of course the endless sprawl up the hills too. They are infilling a lot in my parents area in the older part of east hill.

But of course the more things change the more they stay the same... there are aspects of Vernon that never change

The new Kal Tire office in Vernon (currently under construction):

From the CTA Design group website.

Again, not the Bow, but its Vernon, not Calgary

It is if you add 55 floors and bend it into a boomerang.
