Shoppers Drug Mart...are they everywhere

http://the-o-dot.blogspot.com/2011/0...ces-tough.html

A funny yet close to bone parody of the impact of having a Shoppers Drug Mart on every corner

It's almost as if in some strange desire to create profit they open more locations as demand increases. Bizarre.

It's a chain store, people. They have MANY locations. This is not unusual. Ottawa is severely under served by retail (per sq ft per capita), so I would argue it has more to do with a lack of other businesses being agressive more so than Shopper's being overly so...plus who doesn't love Optimum points?

Those Optimum points take forever to collect to any redeemable level for the casual user... This being said, they are starting to wake up to urban formats, and they're slowly starting to pull them off better. The one at Bank & Laurier has too much of the shelving and posters on the windows; the one coming on Rideau Street looks like it will have a full front window.

It seems to me that Shoppers missed out on the inter Mall locations where seniors are spending the majority of their time. Rexall has scored major points on this one.

they pulled out of a lot of malls here - i think cause they mostly stay open till 10 pm or 12 am here

but they are also heavily franchised and some franchisees have complained that they are allowing another store to open so closely

Lovin' the 24/7 one next door to the 24/7 Metro at Southgate plaza. Makes it handy to buy some items that are often cheaper than the Convienience stores around...
