60 Million is nothing when you think of how may people live in just the northeast alone.

My bigger concern is transportation. Almost everyone in California drives! That means 60 Million+ vehicles, and many have more than one car. The state really has to further develop its rail and public transportation systems.

Also, dividing California seems pretty stupid too since most the population, including most of the projected growth will be in Southern California. You would have a pretty empty NorCal and a jam packed SoCal. I say California should separate from the US entirely!!! Lol.

^ I wouldn't say that completely; sure huge growth WILL happen in the inner-city areas of SoCal, but the Central Valley is growing pretty fast, too.

With proper planning, perhaps not.

the valley needs severe growth restrictions and hard ag/urban boundaries

I believe there is a Senate Bill that will limit suburban growth and encourage central growth.

theyve talked about it for years, many Californians dont realize just how important the central valley is for agriculture, much more so than for suburban sprawl

actually 60m is quite something considering a significant share of the NE lives in rural towns not connected to a big metro whereas in CA, it's pretty much the metros that comprise all the population. despite being a large state, CA is more crowded than the NE taken as a whole.

Is it around 30 Million now? Its really imposible to predict. California is becomming less desirable and declining economically. Other factors our strict growth boundries implemented.

It's close to 40 million right now, I think 60 million is certainly possible. Depends on how well California's economy does in the next 20 years. The country's population growth is not slowing down until that point, so no doubt California will be one of the top growth spots.

All that growth for So. Cal and none of the residents are complaining. I guess it's pro growth down there I really don't see how their going to absorb that many people anyway.
