The Woodlands Waterway

Have any of you been to The Woodlands Waterway before? I'm really liking it, I think it's one of the best neighborhoods in Houston and one of the top ten best New Urbanism projects in the United States. Dare I say it...I like it better than Discovery Green and Downtown.

The fake trolley bus is better than the boat, just fyi. It even has its own road, so its like a mini BRT system It actually seems useful as transit too, going to the grocery store, library, etc. If people in The Woodlands actually needed public transportation it wouldn't be such a bad service. If only they could get some normal less cheesy looking buses, with better seating than the varnished wood benches and multiple doors if ridership picks up following the buildout of all those towers on the western end. Perhaps like the Denver transit mall, which has those electric/LNG buses(they are very quiet and don't smell) with 3 sets of doors.

I drive the Water taxi's. They aren't there for transportation. That's why they're $6.00 a ticket. They're there to be a tour of the Waterway and say what you will about the trolleys but they're free.

High brow cheesy-ness aside, The Woodlands Waterway is really quite excellent from a planning perspective. Lots to build on as more infill and businesses come that way. I'm thoroughly convinced that The Woodlands will have the next "true CBD" in our area. The prevailing question is, can it handle having the diversity and eventually the problems that come with being a true downtown?? Right now, I'd say No because they haven't developed the service infrastructure necessary to maintain the area.

Then I'm assuming you guys have seen this?

Anadarko Building New Office Tower

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. has announced plans to construct a 31-story office building next to its headquarters in The Woodlands to accommodate planned growth.

------

I'm guessing that additional housing and retail will come along with this.

This isn't for the Waterway, and I'm not even sure where it is in relation to the Waterway, but it's in The Woodlands.

It's on Lake Woodlands, The Waterway ends at and flows into Lake Woodlands.

I went to a concert the other day ago out there and was surprised out how good it looks now. Sucks that its sooooooooo far away from anything. Would be kind of okay if you could find a job out there. but it really lacks that bit of grit that needed to give it authenticity.
