Movie screening of Urbanized TONIGHT at the Plaza

Super last minute, but I finally had an excuse to stop lurking and join this forum.

UrbanCSA, a student lead organization, is renting out the Plaza Theatre in Kensington to show Urbanized, a film by Gary Hustwit. The documentary explores urban design and planning strategies that major decision makers are using to manage successful contemporary cities. This will be the second showing of the film at The Plaza, the first of which reportedly turning away nearly 100 people after the film sold out.

The film will be shown at 6:30pm (doors open at 6:00) on March 28, 2012 at the Plaza Theatre. UrbanCSA execs will be selling tickets for $10.00 (CASH ONLY!) at the door which will also get you a free club membership for next year (normally $5.00). Membership is not required to buy tickets.

After the film there will be a panel discussion focusing on sustainable principles and planning strategies highlighted in the film and how they can be applied to Calgary. The panellists include Dr. Byron Miller (Geography professor at the University of Calgary), Jim Brown (CBC radio host and director of “Radiant City”), and Alderman Gian-Carlo Carra (The City of Calgary Alderman of Ward 9).

TLDR

What: “Urbanized” followed by a panel discussion at The Plaza Theatre
When: March 28, 2012
Show Time: 6:30pm
Where: The Plaza Theatre
Ticket Price: $10 - CASH ONLY (includes a free membership to UrbanCSA for next year)
MEMBERSHIP NOT REQUIRED TO BUY TICKETS!
Panel: Dr. Byron Miller, Jim Brown, and Alderman Gian-Carlo Carra

Hope to see you there! If you have any questions about the showing or UrbanCSA email contact@urbancsa.org.

I just bought this from iTunes. It's a really good film. They touched on pretty much everything I find interesting about urban design. It had some great videography. The part about the community gardens in Detroit was really interesting. My favorite line;

"I didn't know carrots came from the ground?"
"Where did you think they came from?"
"The bag"
