Dominique Perrault: Citylights - le campus du pont de sèvres

Internationally-recognized french architect Dominique Perrault has redrawn plans for the Pont de Sèvres towers in Boulogne-Billancourt, france with 'citylights', a scheme to transform and re-urbanize the western suburb of Paris. stripping the old façades of the pre-existing towers, the design features a double layer skin that alternates between transparency and silver shades, providing a rhythmic effect to the highly geometric structures.

Situated close to the Seine, the buildings are a composition of three towers which each serve asthe main bodies or 'petals' in the layout.
Hexagonal volumes terminate at different heights, creating a visual effect similar to an organ flues assembly.
Working with the original proportions and identity of
the architecture, the new facade design features a 'bracelet' treatment which work with oblique creases and folds.
The finish multiplies the reflections on all perspectives, providing vibrant and light-filled bands
all around the buildings.

In order to provide more connection at the natural ground level, the elevated entrance of the towers is brought back to the same level of the city.
The lobby links up the buildings on three levels, offering a generous space for meetings and exchanges.
Within nearly 70,000 m2 of office floors, additional programs such as restaurants, cafeterias, a fitness club, a travellers' lobby, intercompany nursery and more are offered throughout.

Yeah, that mall was actually interesting! I liked the BIG and Snöhetta proposals the most. I'm still not in favour of suburban malls, but at least these look interesting, I like the roof-top parks.

Citylights: I like the skyline shot of Midtown Manhattan. Not a fan of the non-urban ground level of the project though. I realize Paris doesn't have anywhere near as much a problem with this as Stockholm, but if non-urban sground levels is seen as a good / avantgard thing... it'll become a real problem.

It is not a skyline shot of Midtown Manhattan, it is La Défense.
The skyline is not well positioned, I mean that the picture is inversed but I clearly recognize Tour First, Tour Total, tour Areva and other skyscrapers of La Défense.

Citylights is the renovation of an existing tower, the actual ground level is much less urban.

huh, I thought I saw the Citicorp building in there. My bad.

That entrance looks monumental, understated and unwelcoming. Not a good design.

Your bad was quite flattering and funny, Swede. I would admit that the district skyline looks cool on that edited picture though. They shot it from the viewpoint that makes it look the biggest.

About Citylights itself, the buildings to be renovated are commonly called a fortress. So that site mustn't be an easy one to work on when it comes to integrate it with its surroundings. Just one more great achievement of the 1970s. That renovation will be a welcome refreshment anyways.

Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation (i.e. LVMH's art patronage activities).
Mind you:

Under construction in the Jardin d'Acclimatation (Bois de Boulogne).

Thanks to Milo for these pictures.

There's gonna be an art gallery in there. I'm assuming it would host their foundation offices as well.

i wonder how much booze this guy had to feed sarkozy for him to be allowed to build his museum in the bois de boulogne, but what a beautiful structure.

you know, sometimes all it takes is a little browsing through the various french and german fora (and sometimes spanish) to really remember what beautiful structures human beings can develop. sf is a dump full of bumbling phillistines, by contrast with what you folks have over there. not sure if it makes me despair at our lot over here, or utterly inspired by the fact that, at least somewhere, humans enjoy the radiance of the fruits of their most beautiful labors.

I guess this is the right thread to post Paris projects

Maybe a moderator or admin could move the thread here into the main thread.

^ There are 2 threads for Paris's general developments. This in the Europe section and another in the City Compilations that has a link to it in Europe/Paris P&C.
I'll use the other one next time.
