1995. Dated? I have archived usenet posts older than that. Demolishing (in theory, a clause just keeps the owners options open, it doesn't mean demolition is imminent) such a relatively new building seems a waste.
Though it's not unheard of, 80s commercial buildings at Broadway/Victoria, and Broadway near Cambie have been demolished and replaced with larger builidings. Historically even substantial buildings had a short lifespan, the 2nd Hotel Vancouver (30ish years), the 2nd CPR station (15ish years)
(Media reports dated the Starbucks to 1988, but I remember contsruction hoarding on that corner in June 1994.. .. IIRC the previous building also had a corner Starbucks)
