Sad to see places like those going up, historic building give character and heritage to neighborhoods like nothing else.

But at the other end, this could be the rebirth of that area with the proper project.

Any news or rumours on what the site might become or is it still too soon??

Too soon. There is a similar type of lot on Union & Coburg that has been sitting empty for years, so there's no guarantee this lot gets developed in the near future.

Probably a parking lot in the short term.

If the market is there, it'd be a nice spot for condos with a small grocery store on the bottom floor.

An acquaintance that worked at the store says the owner will be rebuilding and he will operate his corner store from a trailer during construction. No word on if it's going to be a replica, but the store will return to bottom level.

Well, then, if there's any good news to come out of the whole thing, it's that the store will finally get the renovations it's needed for so long.

Any sense who will win mayor's seat? There doesn't appear to be any polling. Just curious ....

I don't think I've ever seen that material before. Do you have any photos of the whole building to get some perspective?

No, I don't, just those three. I think the copper cladding is only on the one side.

Also, are we allowed to take bets on how long it'll take for all that copper on the Fortress of Vengeance to be stolen for $$$?

I was speaking with the people that own the convenience store at Carmarthen and Duke - they were saying that he is having issues with the insurance - they may not pay. Don't know the details but they are friends of Cyrus. (the owner of the place that burned)

Scumbag insurance companies, of course they don't want to pay! That would be bad for the bottom line. They'll Look for whatever tiny discrepancy in the contract that might exist in order to weasel out of their (moral) obligation to help this guy out. It won't matter either that he might have been a loyal customer that has never missed making a payment for years. That's beside the point.

Pretty strong comments. I didn't mean to suggest that they didn't want to pay - I have no idea what the issue is and I am not about to start any rumours as to why or why not they may or may not pay.

I was wondering that...considering how close it is to the police station and court, they wouldn't have to go far once they got caught. That would be an interesting case.

Is it actually copper? Won't it turn green after a few weeks exposed to the elements? I suppose it could have some kind of protective coating to keep the actual copper separated from the air.
