Looking at the side of the core on Earthcam I can see the connecting plates for the floor beams and it looks like it needs two more jumps to reach the seventh floor from where it is currently. Also can't wait to see some steel. That is supposed to happen this month although it looks like there is work yet on the lobby floor, anyone with info on steel please share
After 11 years of grueling talks, a $93.9 million payment yesterday finally clinched a deal between the Port Authority and Westfield Group for control of the World Trade Center’s retail space. Global shopping mall developer Westfield wired the Port Authority a check, sources told The Post — the first installment of $612.5 million Westfield will pay the PA for a 50 percent, joint-venture stake in the site’s eventual 460,000 square feet of retail.
Although a tentative agreement was struck last year and the PA board approved it in February, like many other concrete-sounding “deals” at the WTC, it had no teeth — until now. “Remember, the PA board also approved Vornado’s office tower over the bus terminal years ago. Have you noticed an office building over the bus terminal?” an insider cracked.
Westfield will lend its skills in developing, leasing and operating an initial 365,000 square feet inside under-construction 4 WTC, the WTC Transportation Hub, above-ground along Church and Dey Streets and inside 3 WTC in the planning stage. It will also include 90,000 square feet more when 2 WTC is developed in the future.
Has anyone noticed that 3WTC's core continues to rise...even today formwork is being lifted. It may just be me but it looks already awfully tall for just seven stories. Maybe, just maybe......??????

No, it's still stopping at seven stories(looks to be somewhere around five or six). Don't forget how large Tower 3's base is. Even if the tower were going ahead Silverstein would be using his own money which he needs for the rest of the site.
Went over this at wired. It seems they are building the entire base. It's a triple height lobby, a double height mechanical floor, and 5 office floors. That's 7 "stories" but it's closer to 10 and it's the first 150-200 feet of the building. Doing so greatly simplifies continuing/adding the tower later.

Have we heard any actual confirmations about T3 being shortened to 1080 feet? Or is this speculation due to some renderings? It just ruins the spiral kind of.

No. It's got less cross bracing and is shorter in every way it is possible for a building to be shorter. That said, it's only getting built to the 7th (12th) floor right now. That's not short, but it's not exactly 1100+ feet either.
