You should probably stop listening to whatever's telling you that.

The skyline is going to be dramatically different in 5 years, and 432 Park is just one of the new major buildings going in (although possibly the biggest).

One57 and Tower Verre IMO look seroiusly out of proportion.......This render gives a good sense of placement, tho.

I don't think so. It's perspective.

Slight topic deviation @Rouadcruiser: The only reason I made the opinion is that particularly with respect to One57, it just looks like is so much taller than CitySpire, given how close they are to each other. Just saying.....but whatever. It's just a silly nitpick in retrospect.

On Topic: I'm still a tad uneasy about the width of 432 given its height. I do hope it receives either a *smidgeon* of widening as has been suggested, or the facade treatment makes it look like a lot more than a threadbare, sky-blue pretzel rod.
I'm certainly not worried about the structural dynamics involved; but I do hope that they're reflected in architectural elements that don't lend the impression of mere functionalism.

I mean, as an example, there's IMO a right way to do X-bracing and a wrong one. The right way integrates aesthetic considerations with the application of proper high-rise engineering techniques.

I trust Sr. Viñoly's appreciation of these matters and the skillful implementation thereof.

I guess it comes down to personal taste. I think 432 Park would look better with a slightly tapering element added, instead of being so boxy-skinny all the way up and down. It looks like the one of the old Twin Towers on a crash diet. Maybe leaving the top part narrow but making it wider at the base, ever so slightly, or even throwing in an asymmetrical element..Thats just my take. But a supertall residential structure of this height would be pretty unique to the city and so if they actually plan on building it, more power to them..

I think they could make this building wider and more aesthetic without changing the footprint: Install cantilevered extensions between each floor, Frank Lloyd Wright style. That would effectively widen the building and create horizontal accents that would downplay the narrowness of the design. Like balconies on high-rise apartments but without the railings. The only issue might be that the view straight down would be a little more limited- but you would only need to extend each floorplate out 5 or 6 feet...

Isn't this close to 'under construction' status?

So construction has been approved and given the green light, all we are waiting for is the actual process to begin?

Yes construction on what might be the tallest building in New York and the second tallest on the face of North America is about to begin.

Very cool. Let's hope they maintain the intended height. And it will be all-residential which will be pretty unique for a supertall in the US....Will it be a tube structure like the old Twin Towers with the outer steel holding up the building, or a combination? It sure looks similar to the Twins in it's design. Very 1960s.

As I explained it's pretty much something like the Twin Towers. Only difference is it's half as wide, and there is only one instead of two.

A detailed rendering of the tower would be welcome, but we still wait.

My eyes could be playing tricks, but what's that in the upper mid-left?...
