On TV all I ever see here in Chicagoland is Wisconsin and Tim Allen hyping Michigan. Print/Billboard ads seem to be dominated by Wyoming and Montana... and I'll be frank with you guys, riding those 100% Montana ad train cars from work back to home sure puts me in a good mood.

Tell me about it. I'm from a state that let Flint, Saginaw and Detroit become Flint, Saginaw and Detroit.

At least your state advertises golf, Tim Allen, and has a kickass slogan. My state (according to you) advertises Bessie the Cow and Tina the Garter Snake for a state over 11.5 million.

In Memphis, its mainly St. Louis (yes), Arkansas (no, other than camping), Gulf Shores (hell no), and Destin (hell no). When I'm at my parents (closer to Nashville) all I see are Myrtle Beach (big hell no) commercials. Maybe its just me, but the beach gets old and sitting in the sun drinking beer gets old after the first day. I can handle Panama City Beach, but I still don't really get excited about a beach trip. I have some friends that will be climbing up the damn walls about going to the beach. I'd much rather explore a city for 5 days.

Gulf Shores is a huge destination for St. Louisans but I never see much advertising.

I get pretty excited about hitting the Great Lakes beaches during this precious window of June, July, and August because it's the best of both worlds. I get to visit my friends in Chicago and cool down in that beautiful and crystal clear Lake Michigan surf with a beer. St. Louis is the last truly hot city as you head north and it's amazing to push through that thermocline and camp somewhere that it is sometimes sweatshirt weather at night and just warm enough to swim during the day.

Likewise I like to push south when it is cool/cold here in late winter and early spring.

Here in Cleveland, the ones I notice are Michigan, West Virginia, Sandusky OH, Erie PA, the Gulf of Mexico, and occasionally California, South Dakota and Alabama (golfing inland, so I didn't group it with the Gulf Coast)

Not sure if this is exactly it, but it could double for any Midwestern state, really...

I saw this once on TV I think. I've also seen Chicago, California, and a Florida one (or a location in Florida). As well as many Michigan ones even though I already live in Michigan.

Again, anti-city. No surprise here.

I believe that's the ad, though, it's much shorter on television, of course, so you see even less featured. It's too busy, IMO.

BTW, you see Pure Michigan in Michigan because the state has a large, domestic tourism industry. In fact, up until very recently, Michiganders spent more on Michigan tourism than out-of-staters.

I believe that. Despite the prevalent negativity about Michigan's economy by its own residents, many seem to be staunchly pro-Michigan when it comes to vacationing.

Just the other day I heard a guy say, "On Facebook I see everyone going to these fancy places all over the world and blowing all kinds of money. I haven't even seen everything in Michigan yet, why would I go somewhere else? Look at this lake in front of us..."

Northern Michigan is stunning, but man we have some townies.

I've been seeing more pure Michigan ads now. The full bus ads have returned to Chicago's streets, now outnumbering the Montana ads

I'm happy there's now a direct Grand Rapids megabus route from Chicago so visiting the west side of the state just got alot easier.

In Indianapolis we see a whole bunch of Michigan ads with Illinois/Chicago a close 2nd. Every now and then I will see one for Louisville. I have never seen an Ohio ad though which is surprising.

To be fair, I've never seen an ad for Indiana either, which is kinda strange. I've seen ads in the 90's for Indianapolis but not for the state itself.

Indy has been hitting the St. Louis market recently, which seems to me to be a newer phenomenon.

I just recently saw an ad for Ontario, Canada on TV. Mainly showcasing a beach on an island near Lake Huron (or Erie) for retirement or something. Could be wrong, though I'm pretty sure it was Ontario.

Kids: "How about the Dells??"
Dad: "YESS!! THE DELLS!!!"
Mom: "Relax honey! You'll get your ice cream! "

Wisconsin Dells! More than just a theme park!

Yeah... no thanks.

you don't see those incessant orlando commercials, branson, michigan (which actually seems to want the viewer to focus on the lakes.) add to the list, san antonio, the alamo, texas, bar-be-que. biltmore is just about year round. the pissy-tasting wine and a great deal of biltmore christmas. tennessee aquarium.
