Houston Is So Gay

The gay pride parade from Saturday, it was a lot of fun. Its one of the larger parades in the country, something like 250,000 people show up for it. The parade is in Houstons historically gay neighborhood of Montrose and goes down Westheimer.

Thanks for your pics of Houston´s gay parade.

Very nice photography. Very good colours and sharpness. I like to see the variety of people in your shots.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

Wonderful photos! Got to go to the festival then off to volunteer at Grace Lutheran where we held open house with clean bathrooms and free bottled water for Festival and Parade people! Great day in Houston.

Sharp, crisp people photos and the best coverage I've seen of the pageantry, color, and spectacle of a Pride Parade! The cop's expression is priceless; it says this would have been his day off if not for all this commotion.

Anyone know who Dr. Steven Hotze is? Years ago he headed up efforts to deny gay people jobs. Seems like he succeeded, at least temporarily. That was probably 30 years ago but I understand that he's still in Houston and still stirring up trouble.

Austin had a guy like that (a minister) who some friends of mine caught on video in the back of a dirty book store.

City Hall has been lit like a rainbow almost all month. And just tonight we noticed that the top of Herman Plaza Professional Building's (in the medical center)top is also light like a rainbow!

Really? Even though I live like 7 blocks away from City Hall I guess I never go down there at night. Thats pretty cool if they are doing it for gay pride, pretty surprising actually.

They did elect a lesbian mayor so maybe it's not that surprising.

Houston, or rather parts of it are open-minded. Outside of the liberal pockets of big cities and college towns this would not fly in the rest of Texas and you'd be risking real physical danger staging a gay pride parade in some random podunk town. Or maybe it would be OK in certain cases like the suburbs as long as they looked like the protesters and not half naked or in womens' clothing.

I'm betting the kind of scene shown in the pics wouldn't fly in rural areas of most states in this country. That could be an interesting topic for a thread somewhere else in the forum, though.

If this stuff happened in the rural town I lived in in Arkansas for 4 years, they would all be ridiculed and most likely injured in some form or another. I would imagine rednecks in big trucks would drive by throwing glass bottles at them and cussing them out calling them faggots and large evangelical women would probably pass out due to the site of a large gathering of sodomites. But then again, something like this would never happen in a small rural town because anyone with any sense or brains gets the hell out of them as soon as possible; so you are left with all the ignorant fox watchers.

Good to see a lot of misconceptions about Texas coming down.
