The stretch of des Allumettieres between Leduc and the BOB is really an eyesore. Got a couple of new abandonned homes boarded out for the most part (probably crack houses now) at the corner with Saint-Redempteur. Not really a great entryway to the downtown area on that busy artery.

Take the west bound off ramp at Parkdale lately? Pretty neat seeing all the houses on the south side being boarded up as they become property to the city and getting preped for demo.

North side property value ready to dimise even lower than the low that they already are.

I was going to ask about those houses. Beyond demolition, is there a plan for this street?

Re-aligning the ramp to be right next to the Queensway and lane for just the houses with a wall between the off-ramp and the residential street. Essentially using the land from the houses for the off-ramp.

I really like what they did in regards to landscaping that stretch of street, but yes.. those boarded up houses need to be addressed.

The last few years some houses along that street have used incentives from the city to fix up their appearance, most recently I noticed a house on the south side at Morin with new siding being installed... a lot better than that hodge-podge of stucco and vinyl that is there currently.

I think that it's the Province that's buying up/expropriating those properties for the new offramp alignment.

You're right. 417 = MTO.
I somehow thought the City was involved as the main reason for the realignment is due to the City's ambulances getting bottle necked here in high traffic while on route to the Civic.

Sounds like at least the one at the corner of Charlevoix has was looks to be a demolition notice. Good be a good location for a 6-8 floors there.

Also City is looking to sell lands that includes this piece of crap near Montcalm and to redevelop potentially the area with residential units. Hopefully some 10-12+ story buildings would be built there.

Abandoned or just for sale?

It is in Lowertown, but not in the Market.

The ByWard Market BIA signs go up Dalhousie on that block, so I would argue it is.

Hey, I came upon this thread a bit late. Why are you looking for old abandoned buildings?? Just to list them? I always come across stuff; personally they're nice if you're good at photography because they give off this creepy, eerie feeling and they shot well in photos. There is a old house at Carling and Richmond; it was supposed to be demolished but it now boarded up. It's been that way for 2 years with no plans in site. It looks like from the 1940s, it's tall and narrow and it's finished in that rocky stucco type finish. Also there is the old Grant Alternative Public School along Richmond between Pinecrest and Carling. Both of these are a 2 minute walk from one another. It's 4 storeys tall and the building dates from the 1920s or 30s from when schools were tall and narrow and not 1-2 floors sprawlled out.

I did a mini-project on this site at 2720 Richmond in a 4th year Engineering class a years back. The front lawn, driveway, and school building are all protected under the Ontario Heritage Act and recognized by Ottawa's city council and the city's heritage bylaw (420-2006). It's a cool site to walk around on!

I see potiential for redevelopment. Turn the school into one and two bedroom condos. The hallway is already there, just a matter of reconfiguring the classrooms to make condos. The between the admin areas, staff rooms, cafeteria/lunch room could be a rec room, weight room or party room.

Around the yard you could build 3 story per unit narrow condos around the perimeter with the old Grant school in the middle and leave the green space between the driveway open as a park. It's easily 150m deep on the short side and 200m on the long side and 150m wide. Doesn't seem like a NIMBY area so I doubt you'd have to worry about NIMBYs protesting the increased traffic killing off their children or how the noise frequency of the extra traffic giving will cause cancer. If opens up towards Richmond anyways.

I know this post is old, but that crack house on the corner of St Redempteur and Allumettieres has been torn down for a while now. Good riddance.

Now to clean up Eddy.. man.. what a wasted opportunity. Bureau should put as much effort into this street as he has done with Montcalm.

I also noticed yesterday that the Burger King on St-Joseph in Hull is closed, and covered in what appears to be a fresh coat of urine and gang tags..

Since your post, probably not as fresh, but I'm sure we could get some kind of DNA sample to arrest some scofflaws.

The old West Coast Video building in Old Ottawa South has been abandoned since a fire several years ago.

1132 Bank

This site is screaming out for a mixed residential/retail development

especially if they can partner with the ScotiaBank and include some of that parking lot in an enlarged footprint.
