Canada Day - Brought to you by Nissan

It appears that Canada Day fireworks in 4 cities will be preceded by a 3D Nissan advertisement!

WTF? Is everything in this country for sale?

Nissan Altima Making Waves on Canada Day
- Nissan Canada to feature the new Altima sedan in a state-of-the-art holographic water show in select Canadian cities -

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. - In celebration of Canada's 145th anniversary and the market launch of the new Altima sedan, Nissan Canada will host a spectacular water show for the general public in Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver on Sunday, July 1, 2012. By using 3D Water Screen Projection technology, Nissan will showcase the 2013 Altima's dynamic design and performance features with a larger-than-life holographic image in a spectacular diffusion of light and water.

As a premier sponsor for Canada Day fireworks in the four cities, Nissan, the first company to use 3D Water Screen Projection technology in Canada, will put the Nissan Altima front-and-center of the festivities.

At least you don't have your Arena being rechristened the "Budweiser Gardens".

Didn't you notice on the plane when you started talking, eventually I started reading the vomit bag?

For a long time, the Millwoods Canada Day Fireworks in Edmonton have been for a long time sponsored by IGA (Now Sobey's, I guess.) I haven't seen the River Valley Fireworks be sponsored yet.

Everything is sponsored to one degree or another but this amounts to an ad being embedded into the actual show. Pretty pathetic.

I long for the days when cigarette companies used to sponsor events. They did it quietly and didn't put their corporate shills in the forefront embarrassing us and themselves with their self love and pats on the back.

Unfortunately, government has decided our taxes are better spent on their own salaries, bloated bureaucracy and I suppose health care and not on fully funding cultural events so we seem stuck with the corporate cheese if we want these events at all.

Philanthropy in Canada isn't that well ingrained in our society (i.e. it actually makes news when some wealthy person donates a million dollars to a school etc.) so the only solution really is to put your blinders on and enjoy.

I shudder to think about the day that our national holiday becomes known as Rogers Canada Day, and that May 24th becomes Molson Victoria Day.
