What does your city and metro feel like?

St. Louis...

has a personality, strong personality. spirited. the last rust belt city. last interior 19th century big city. emotional. vast suburbs I don't know. big muddy river-y. hot summers. crunchy inner city. smoky. dirty. bricky. hard shell and soft inside. bitchy, sometimes angry we arent bigger. crime problem. end of where the ground is soft and beginning of where the ground is tough. big union town. too many epic interstates and tractor trailors. builds things. rte 66 country. last northern city, cigarette-y voice, shook hands with memphis. chuck berry. baseball kingdom. planes, trains, and automobiles. last real hockey city heading SW. and big loud barges and no more locks on the Mississippi. Forever who I am.

The first response that came to my mind was "saggy tits". You can tell they used to be fun, but now, they're just disgusting and you want to get as far away as possible.

Iowa City: eclectic, eccentric, unabashedly liberal, educated, prosperous, bigger than it actually is.

Quad Cities...

Fragmented, disjointed, confusing, proud, self-loathing, self-loving, afraid of change, embraces change, dead, thriving, contradictory, grungy, historical, ignored, (now I'll steal some Centropolis descriptions) big muddy river-y, bricky, bitchy, union town, industrial, ALWAYS angry we aren't bigger, too many one-ways, humid, fridgid, hilly, beautiful bridges, crime throughout its history, bluesy, jazzy, Bix Beiderbecke-y, John Deere-y, Blackhawk-y, lock and dams, ravines, nice views, riverboats, casinos, fat old women in elastic-waisted denim capri pants and chunky tennis shoes.

I love this. I think you nailed it. I would add that if St. Louis were a person, it would most definitely be donning a butterfly collar with a brown More cigarette hanging from his/her lip. Throw in a shower cap for good measure.

Laid back, stoned but hardworking, proud, isolationist, outdoorsy, in to everything, hard to explain to outsiders, surprising to outsiders, stereotypical suburbs surrounding a core where nobody grows up, all about havin fun, go big or go home, kinda condescending but can back it all up, quietly superlative, great food, great beer, great weed, great music, great weather, great neighborhoods, great parks, great outdoors, lots of drinkers and smokers and all while being insanely active and, great place to be young, hoppy IPA, whiskey, Hamm's, Oly, and PBR, green chili, rooftop bars, wild yet mild weather, more sun than you know, organic and green movements, indie city corporate outer, red rocks, mountains and plains, buffalo, cougars, extreme sports, never a boring day, a big draw to people everywhere, many transplants, hardly any complaints.
