Got this lovely email from the West LRT office a couple days ago to go in community newsletters:

Title: The West LRT – The final work is underway
Crews continue to be hard at work this summer with the final construction components of the West LRT, but there are already some of the final testing elements of the project that are well underway.
Testing, which has been taking place on the line from downtown to the Shaganappi Point Station over the past few months, is now moving west. Beginning in mid-July, the West LRT test train will make its way from the Shaganappi Point Station to the 45 Street Station. It will then cross Sarcee trail and move towards 69 Street Station this fall.
This testing will ensure all the mechanical, electrical, safety, audio and visual systems on the new line are functional and fully integrated into Calgary Transit’s existing systems. Extensive testing is necessary to ensure LRT vehicles operate in a safe, proper and consistent manner.
While testing is going on throughout the summer and fall, residents can expect to see and hear the signal systems, such as the crossing arms and test trains, in operation at the various roadway crossings along the LRT alignment.
Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to pay extra attention at these intersections, as trains will be more frequently on the line over the coming months.
Simulated smoke testing to start in August
Another component of the testing phase is simulated smoke testing in the underground station and tunnels along the West LRT line. The simulated smoke testing is expected to start later this summer as part of Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS) test verification.
These tests are designed to measure the effectiveness of this fire and safety component to remove smoke quickly and efficiently from underground stations and tunnels.
Nearby residents and businesses may see or smell the simulated, harmless, cold smoke emitting from the exhaust ventilation shafts at the station and underground tunnel portals. This testing is standard procedure in advance of LRT operations and does not need to be reported to Emergency Services.
Information on the simulated cold smoke testing schedule, as well as other West LRT construction information is available at www.westlrt.ca.
