My recollection of the Calgary Flames run for the cup when the made to the finals is that 17th Ave had several evening visual arts festivals in celebration. [wrong thread though]

I am curious about the "super-human strength" side effects. It takes multiple cops (7 of them!) to wrestle one of these guys down. I'm no chemist, but I wonder if that element could be isolated and injected into the super soldiers of tomorrow?....

I'm sure there are chemicals that can make you superhuman for a few minutes, but you may not make it past that, if you know what I mean (heart issues / strokes, etc.).

I know. My post was mostly in jest. Still, I am fascinated by the fact that a body can be that strong, just seems to need the right jolt (be it adrenaline, or bath salts).

I don't think they have proven Bath Salts were the cause in any of these cases. They found no trace in the Miami face eaters body, looks like it's just media hype based on pretty much nothing.

Somehow suburbia has missed updating this thread...

1 dead, 3 injured in Calgary restaurant shooting

Police in Calgary are investigating a fatal shooting early Sunday morning.

It happened around 2 a.m. MT inside the Basil Ultimate Pho and Fine Vietnamese Cuisine, located at 2770 32 Ave. N.E.
[...]
Officials won't say whether the shooting is gang related but investigators say they will draw from experiences from the 2009 New Year's Day triple murder at the Bolsa Vietnamese Restaurant.
It's sad that these suburban gangland slayings happen so frequently officials are starting to build up expertise from dealing with them.

I agree that it is a shame these gang type incidents happen. There was also the post Canada Day brawl downtown that resulted in stab wounds amidst the family-centric celebrations.

Stacey said the attack is especially concerning because it happened so early in the evening, while it was still light out on Canada Day.

Cops Probe Savage Beating of Young Man

http://www.calgarysun.com/2012/07/16...g-of-young-man

This is very upsetting. Brendan had just graduated from engineering at Queen's and had a bright future ahead of him before beating. He was beaten and has severe and possible permanent brain injuries.

He worked at my small company for a bit and there were a few coworkers that had planned to meet up with him on that night. One of the emails I had seen today was from the president of Enbridge expressing concern about the incident.

If anyone knows of anything that happened on Thursday AM at 9 Ave and 5 St SW please contact the police.

^that's brutal. I hope they catch whoever did it-prob a group of low-life scumbags, and give them all very long prison sentences. Send a clear message to those rejects.

How can anyone hurt another to that extent? Don't people get scared of what their actions could do? Unbelievable. Sounds like another one of those random / semi-random attacks, and they are really the worst kind. These victims aren't people who've chosen gangs or chosen a life with drugs or what have you. Just a young kid out during the Stampede.

A website has been set up to provide updates on his progress and have more awareness:

Hopefully these scumbags are caught.

The Calgary Police Service is renewing a reminder for residents to be mindful of garage and vehicle security following an increased number of offences in the communities of Willow Park, Maple Ridge and Acadia.

At the end of June, police issued a warning after 22 offences were committed during the month. Since then, a further 28 offences have been committed with offenders continuing to target vehicles and garages.

Calgary is living proof that economic disparity is at the heart of most crime. In a city where damn near anyone can get a decent paying job, there just simply isn't much crime.

It's pretty easy to get a job in Edmonton, yet their crime severity index is at 89.4 compared to 65.8 for us.
