Probably winter. My brother works for the datacom contractor and they won't be done in there until October I believe he mentioned when I asked him. The place is going to be insanely wired, several million feet of copper and fibre for just the tower and connecting it to the existing NavCan network

Good to know! Thanks for the update. I think that tower will be a bit of an icon at the airport. I look forward to the first open house so we can have a look at all of that airport real estate you'll be able to survey from that lofty perch!

Flight Plan: YYC is on CTV right now talking about the construction at the airport and the new terminal/runway. Anyone know if it will be on again ?

I'm around the airport - quite a bit, and I can see the new control tower going up - from my house - but it looks like the construction has stopped. Could some one shed some light on this???

It looks like they are transitioning to the wider decks now for the tower, probably getting ready for that, or doing other work on the inside.

However, it has been a while since anything visible has been done, at least from a distance.

That is good then. It's nice to know that this didn't get stopped in it's tracks by government or any other interference.

I drove by the tower this morning, there definitely is construction going on. They are assembling one of the floor decks on the ground. I'm assuming they will then use a large crane to fit the whole thing up to the top.

May numbers are in and looks pretty good overall. International is still by far the weakest sector in terms of both pure numbers and percentage growth.

http://www.yyc.com/data//1/rec_docs/33_BR_PaxTotal.pdf

But, YYC continues to close the gap on YUL which has seen anemic growth all year. It's only 270K pax behind YUL with more than double the growth this year.

Does YUL double-count connecting passengers like YYC does?

Lol, after all was said and done, you may not have been far off the mark with that bold prediction. Additionally, expect YUL to be quite flat (if not in negative territory) from here on because a lot of their growth in 2011 was the result of the battle for pax between YYZ/YTZ to YUL with WS increasing capacity and SkyRegional starting service on June 1st. That said, YYC will slow to a tiny crawl as well so it should be interesting.

Yes. They also started to include non-revs at just around the same time YYC was going to surpass them. All top-10 Canadian airports do this now, AFAIK.

I would however expect YUL's international numbers to surge in the summer with the increased European traffic as a result of tour operator's. The France market alone jumps from just the Paris flights to something like 5 or 6 destinations in France alone with Marsielle, Bordeaux, Nice, Toulouse, Nantes etc brought online by Transat etc.

I wouldn't expect a major surge. AF has somewhat scaled back their YUL operation compared to last year. Still a lot of pax to Paris but not as many as last year. Also, last year, YUL had pretty even growth throughout the year. This year, transborder traffic is down and international traffic is only up about 37K, ytd.

For the longest time, Edmonton did not, correct? When did they start?

Yes but all these services have been on offer for years now. No NEW destinations are really being offered this year when compared to last year, though 'some' growth may come as a result of Transat plying 332s instead of 310s on some of those routes. And as I was alluding to earlier, their domestic numbers jumped starting June 1st because of the spike in Trannah service. Nothing has changed since then so that's (also) going to flat-line. Anemic at best, I suspect.

Allow me to correct myself. It was actually May 1st of last year that the significant increase in TOR-YUL service began. Already you can see how that 'skewed' last year's numbers and how that will translate to no more growth in '12.

Few questions.

1) What was the seating layout for Air Canada 747-400, A340-300 and 767-200? I can find 744 Combi and A345 layouts on their website, but not the 744 Pax, A343 and 762.
2) What about Canadian Airlines 747-400s?
3) Did Air Canada or Canadian Airlines ever offer 3 classes of service (F/J/Y)? If so, in which aircraft and what was the layout?

Thanks.

1) Original AC never had 744, only the 744combi. A340 had substantially the same layout as 333. The 762 had different configurations depending on 762 domestic or 762ER. Also need a timeframe for each aircraft as there were adjustments to the seat config.
2) CP 744s had 430 seats overall.
3) Prior to 1994 AC had first class, business class, and economy class. F and J were combined with new seats after Hollis Harris arrived in 1992/3 timeframe. Hollis ported the Executive First idea (2 cabin aircaft) from CO. All widebody aircraft had three class of service. CP Air had similar offering to AC during the 3 cabin days.
