This downtown mixed-use building at 16th & Market should start construction later this year. There is an Office Depot located on the site that has to move first (to 16th & Wynkoop in Lodo), then the building has to be demolished. It will have underground parking, retail space at street level, 5 floors of office space and 4 floors of residential:

Under Construction: IMA Financial HQ, 5 stories, 100,000 sq ft.

Well, the IMA Financial Center (the Union Station North Wing Building) is now under construction with the erection of the crane base and the pulling of the building permit.

Here's a pretty rendering:

Under Construction = 2300 Walnut, 5 stories with 310 units.

This apartment complex takes up an entire block within just a baseballs throw from Coors Field (ok maybe a little further than that) and adjacent to the up and coming Larimer St restaurant/bar scene.

Hey Denver Forum folks! I'm visiting from Atlanta for a few days next week, and wanted to get a few suggestions as to cool places downtown that I need to see (in the context of enjoying typical forum highrise and urban chatter).

Also...would you all suggest that I rent a car, or just plan to walk around town?

Welcome jnihiser

Hey,

Im not a usual here on the forums... but I live in downtown and thus can comment. Car is pointless and will just slow you down. Everything you need to see is within a few mile square area. Stay downtown, and get a bike pass for the time your here... http://www.denverbikesharing.org/

This is the best way to see the city. You can get everywhere downtown easy.

Things I like:
-Cherry Creek (Great ride!!) Take this north too Confluence Park
-Confluence Park
-Museum District (Art Museum area.. Nice architecture)
-Commons park (CPV valley - Millennium Bridge)
-Lodo (Historic area)
-Highlands
-16th Street Mall
-Aurora Campus
-Mint (Gov district)
-Union Station (Major construction going on here.)
-Ballpark neighboorhood
-Uptown
-Capital Hill (Older more historic residential area. Very diverse, fun)
-Lower Broadway
-Larimer Square (Larimer and 15th) (Also see other side of Larimer at around Larimer and 20th)
-Coors Field

.. If you like beer: Wynkoop Brewery, Great Divide Brewery (I would suggest getting on one of their tours.), Denver Brew!

- Impulse Theater (Great improve show!, cheap too (In the basement of Wynkoop found in LODO near Union Station)

and much, much more.

Lots of interesting architecture to see! Have fun!

Everything mentioned is within a 15 minute bike ride of each other and there are bike stations all over the place!

- James

Awesome!

James,

Wow. This is great information. I'm going to follow your lead here and go car-less for my time here. The weather is right, and biking will suffice.

I'll make sure to take pictures (for the forumers), catch the Brewery Tours, and check out the improv (I actually was the musical improviser for Atlanta's big improv company, Dad's Garage, so that's a great suggestion).

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Justin

My Trip To Denver

Hey Folks.

Just spent three days in your ABSOLUTELY AWESOME city.

Based on the lack of activity in the Denver forum, I had assumed that Denver didn't have any urban living activity, construction, etc.... I was wrong. wow.

I went car-less, and really just walked the entire city. What I found most interesting about Denver was the similarities it had to several different cities...

Your CBD looks like Chicago. That was a big surprise....the flatness of the terrain, the nice grid system, and the number of highrises all contributed to this.

Art Museaum / Capitol....very DC. The large grass mall and lowrise buildings contributed to this.

LODO... San Diego.

I was incredibly impressed with the amount of old red brick buildings that Denver has (and continues to use for modern office and retail usages). It lends an air of authenticity and age to the city.

The entire area around union station, the river, and across the river are just really cool.

ok...here are the pics.

Wow, great photos! And they all came from an out-of-towner. What gives, Denverites?!? No construction pics for those of us living elsewhere and missing home?

That project on 22nd and Market looks great. What is that called again?

Also, aren't there plans for ANOTHER apartment/condo on the adjoining block of 22nd/Blake right across from Coors Field?

I hope to get time this summer to come back to the CO and say hello again. We shall see if it is in the cards. Always proud to tell people where I hail from!

Denver's not in a high-rise boom anymore, like it was from 2005-2010, but it's defiantly in a grand mid-rise boom. This mid-rise boom, is mostly rental apartments and/or office space. There are also a few smaller hotel projects coming online. But the high-rise hotel and high-rise condo boom, is over. All for the best! The urban core of Denver is undergoing a more rapid densification and adding new residents far faster now, with mid-rise projects going up everywhere and with the rental apartments now being built instead of the condos.

Here's another new project now moving forward in the Union Station redevelopment!
Quote:
One Union Station to be headquarters of Antero Resources
By Howard Pankratz , The Denver Post 07/13/2012 - 10:23 PM EDT Updated 07/14/2012 - 1:20 AM EDT

Antero Resources will become the lead tenant in One Union Station, a new 110,000-square-foot office building near Denver's historic Union Station, the energy company and building developers jointly announced Friday.

The deal will allow construction of the building to move forward, advancing the redevelopment surrounding the former train station, which is being converted into a multimodal transit hub and boutique hotel.

The five-story One Union Station, a joint venture of East West Partners and Starwood Capital Group, will be at the northeast corner of 16th and Wynkoop streets...
