I actually think they have a few penthouse units available, although I heard that one was sold recently for $4million - although I only heard that.

Not surprised thought that they are having trouble - the developer totally cheaped out on the amenities and put in a bunch of condos on the amenitites floor, so instead of a yoga room, party room and fitness centre there is a closet of a gym that is pathetic and this weird little room with like a board room table that no one will ever use - and of course they will probably also cheap out on the patio, if they ever get around to it.

This is the problem with all luxury buildings in Ottawa: promise the moon then don't deliver.

Prices reduced!

According to the Ottawarealestate website, the prices have been reduced by 8% on the remaining units! Disappointing to see that there are still 15 units for sale! Maybe it has to do with the fact that the building is not was it was advertised to be.

If I had the choice, I'd buy a suite at 700 Sussex.

On an other point, shouldn't the city or the condo association force the developer to remove the cheap "condos for sale" sign on the side of the building?

Food for thoughts

8% price drop?!? -- I'll need to read that for myself to believe it!

Can you post a link to this 8% price drop info. That sounds hard to believe since condo prices in Ottawa have seen about a 10% hike this past year - including 90 George's re-sale prices.

So please provide the source where you got that information.

And I bet that upon closer examination, you would reconsider buying a suite at 700 Sussex over 90 George - especially since several 700 Sussex residents have moved over to 90 George after many building problems such as water leaking from the roof into units - and plus, people like the 90 George location much better.

Also to update: the outside terrace is finally being completed (the delay was a result of the City delaying in approving the imported wood used to construct the deck). They are now also finishing off the front driveway of the condo for exclusive use for the condo.

Ah ok! Thanks for this link ... but just to clarify, as I understand it, the builder is absorbing the 8% hst that purchasers would have otherwise had to pay if buying from the builder.

So technically, prices aren't dropping and certainly not dropping for for re-sale condos since the hst doesn't apply to those anyways.

During Christmas break I went to a networking dinner with a few guys in Toronto and a guy from MLSE told me he heard something about them wanting to bring Real Sports to Ottawa. I didn't believe him, but I guess he was right. I would've thought Lansdowne would've been the ideal location. Nevertheless, this is great news for Ottawa and for the market!

One has to think that real Sports might have gone to Lansdowne if there had not been the court case delays and uncertain timelines.
Roger Greenberg has pointed out that it will be hard to get committments for the retail space until the final Ottawa/OSEG contracts are signed and a firm building schedule in place.
Looks like MLSE wants to go with a Real Sports location ASAP and will not wait for the LP project to get sorted out. As kevin says, great for ther market though.

My wife and I stumbled onto an in-depth listing for one of the Penthouses for sale in 90 George...I think they want 3.4 million for it. Or at least, Marilyn Wilson, the realtor, wants that much for it. I must say though, that it IS one of the coolest condo's/apartments I've ever seen...almost on par with the flat reno Colin and Justin did on the 1 million pound project on BBC that got them started years ago. I think it was a partial basement flat in Glasgow, and it's still one of the best I've ever seen...The level of coolness of the unit in 90 george is pretty high too though...

I suspect that was the penthouse Dany Heatley bought before things went sour in Ottawa for him.

This penthouse is nice! Why isn't Canril building more projects in this city? I don't hear their name a lot and their website doesn't have any recent projects. Anyone know why they aren't building more than they are?

I think they still haven't sold all the units in this building (3+ years after completion). There aren't enough people in Ottawa who are willing to pay for quality I guess. Plus all the delays probably killed them on construction costs.

It's a nice building, but I think in terms of price for what you get it is high for this city. They want 300k for a bachelor!

It isn't to say the city can't have the odd building like this, but they are hardly catering to the mass market here.

It's not a bad building, but it's just too much concrete. As for the price; I think Re has the same problem right (albeit not on the market for as long of a period of time).

Well, the project was delivered about 3 or 4 years past their target date and the project changes significantly with regards to the standard interior specifications, amenities, hotel, etc.... I don't think many purchasers were very happy with the final product, plus I've heard that Canril still owes many trades their money.

I stumbled upon this today. Canril was also supposed to replicate the historic George street façade, not just the Rideau one.

The condo in question is named in a lawsuit by a former well-known resident that we just don't give a rat anymore.
