That powerpoint is a very good, very compelling position. If I was council, I would have a difficult time to NOT give the HCC to Carmens.

FWIW, the Mercantis were 2010 campaign donors to Mayor Bratina, Councillor Farr, Councillor Merulla, Councillor Morelli, Councillor Jackson and Councillor Whitehead.

More than anything, I'm pissed at the Spec for running this story. A story, incidentally, with absolutely no legs whatsoever. I suppose I could go to the Spec and say that I'd like to build a 24K gold pyramid downtown and that all I need is a few investors and they'd run it on the front page the next day. Truly craptacular.

I excuse people new to Hamilton for frothing at the mouth, but born and bred Hamiltonians should know better. Did somebody really utter the letters MGM? Let's not forget what planet we're on. We'd be lucky to get MSG.

MGM probably gets mentioned in conjunction with "Vegas-style" because they own 40% of that city's gaming industry. It and other publicly listed corporations run 21st century Las Vegas. Icons like the Sands and Caesars are no exception.

But yes, this proposal seems unlikely to materialize.

The Spec has always swallowed this kind of bait without thinking, so it's kind of an historic tradition. Long before naïve boosterism took the city by storm, the Spec was there wearing metropolitan myopia on its front page above the fold.

time to see if the Mercantis can back up their bluster. I'm betting that 44 story tower was pure fantasy, but let's see if they can get rid of the subsidy as promised.

Developer Mercanti wants to address council on Hamilton casino plan

Businessman PJ Mercanti is asking to speak to councillors at a future meeting to discuss his proposal for a casino.

The delegation will include business leaders, developers, education professionals and an executive from the gaming company.

As well as a casino, Mercanti says his proposed facility could include a hotel, gaming, a restaurant, night life, live shows, luxury retail and a museum.

move the CFL Hall of fame? Increase traffic as a destination. I don't recall the new stadium incorporating it. I think the current location is too 'hidden' and should have a prominent street front. Just my 2 cents.

Pretty sure it's the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Fits nicely with the rumoured Hard Rock Casino.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea but at the same time, I can't imagine it being much more of a tourist destination than the CFL museum already is.

on the destination front, I was thinking more local traffic...I can't recall the last time I went to the CFL HOF (15 years)? But as part of the Casino, it may get increased natural traffic from those coming to play (tourists or locals coming in for the day etc.) Music HOF also a great idea...good boost to get the Juno's back here.
