But would you rather be next to RBC's Canadian banking headquarters, or next to dozens of banking, investment, accounting, auditing, insurance and legal firms? I'd rather be in the "old" CBD any day.

Well, there is always 100 Adelaide, and BAC2. Both of which should be coming online shortly.

Nope that covenant certainly doesn't currently exist, and I'm not sure if it ever did.

Also everything I keep hearing is that Menkes will proceed with their office building on spec, despite how stupid of a decision it appears to be.

But stupid is good for skyscraper-lovers.

I can't think of One York or a tower currently being built on spec. Care to elaborate?

There are some pretty well substantiated rumours that menkes is going to build the office component to its 90 Harbour/1 York street project on spec.

We'll see if they actually have it in them to do it though.

If they built on Spec that would be something. Building on spec is something you only hear about in Calgary. Although Bremner Tower, did start work before any Tenant was announced for the project and we were skeptical then. Bremner was going to be capped at Ground Level, remember that?

^even in Calgary many do not proceed on spec. Oxford did in Vancouver recently.

On the front page Kings on Fourth in Calgary doesn't have a height or floor count, as I don't think anything official was released. The structural engineers say it's 53 floors and 210 metres. Source. I'm sure things will probably change, but for now, there is number. And remarkably, at 210m, doesn't even crack the top 10!

From MMP Engineering website

Edit: Also 3 Eau Claire is not listed on the first page. 48 floors and 41 floors connected at the top. Approx. 550ft.

From Calgary Sun and Calgary Herald

It seems reasonable to do the excavation and garage levels in a single pass.

They may or may not build the building on top of that garage.

I'm well aware. I'm talking about the building itself.

And these aren't just UT/SSP rumours.

Update: 501 Yonge has been shortened to 52 and 48 storeys due to Torontonians being frightened of tall buildings.

Yeesh, I don't get how these people think chopping a few floors off will really make any difference with buildings that tall. Living next to a 52 storey building as opposed to a 58 storey building is different how?? Fewer units/neighbours is all I can think of.

That's a significant reduction and likely would have been more were it not for the OMB. These potential eyesores (applies to every residential tower) will still overpower the surrounding neighbourhood. I'm more curious on how the b&b podium was addressed (if at all) than height.
