If I recall correctly, it is going to be a 15 minute lube shop

15 Minute Lube shop is what I hear as well.

For myself I think this is the perfect location for higher density, so buildings up to 30 storeys. It would be great if the city really pushed the necessity of a livable human scale street front. So maybe the first 3-5 floors are terracing backwards towards a tower which is further back on the lot. This will just allow for more light and air into the space. I think the area should be smothered in trees, medians and planters. A green roof program could be developed, either having it as a collection of hardy plants or as a usable garden. I think the whole space should be mixed use with large pedestrian friendly sidewalks and narrower streets.
Last week I received a phone call from a survey company asking about my view of what the city is doing on the green front. Plenty of questions about the city recycling program, increased density, district heating, transit etc. Not certain who was paying to the poll, however someone with money is things about these concepts.

South Bridge Camera

I haven't been able to get the camera's up for the circle drive south project recently. It's funny how you get to miss them. I also use them to see what the weather is like.

Cameras 1, 2, and 3 will be on and off for the next couple of days as the antenna is being replaced on Luthor tower due to lightning damage.

Two things I've noticed...

First, Across from the new Wendy's in University Heights and immediately next to the Krazy Kileys they have began digging... I would imagine that it would be another fast food place, probably Burger King/A&W. A few spots in the buildings around there have been leased too.

Second, Saskatoon is getting another Harvey's according to their website... 51st and Millar is what it says, but I have no idea where on earth it'd be going. Busy intersection... Should do well out there.

The pad at university heights is suppose to be a Montana's Cookhouse. Actually not a bad addition since there area is already a fair mix of fast food, but few sit down restaurants in the area. There is also a Marble Slab Creamery going in.

Details at: http://www.collierscanada.com/1980 (Brochure had a site map with tenants).

I think an urban plaza and pocket parks integrated in would be great. As well, I see Ontario Avenue becoming the north-south "spine" of the neighbourhood, and I would like to see retail fronting at least this street (as well as 25th Street), complete with patios and the like. On lesser side streets I would like to see townhouse style units that meet sidewalk, with apartments above.
Great ideas. I agree 100% with this. I love mid-rise density and it fits this area very well. The only thing I can see adding to your idea is that the neighbourhood will need some bigger park space that can also be used as SIAST activity and common space, like The Bowl at the university. One easy way that could be accomplished is to expand 'Industrial Park', just on the other side of 33rd, into that slum housing clustered around the Pharmasave (technically, part of Kelsey-Woodlawn). Urban renewal and a great amenity in one step.

Restaurant in River Center

The new restaurant in River Center will be State and Main (www.stateandmain.ca). Same owners as Original Joes. The concept is a slight step above Original Joes - with similar food in a more upscale atmosphere. Any restaurant will do fantastic in this location.

City of Saskatoon is reporting a population estimate of 236,600 as of June 30, 2012! Great to see we're growing so fast!

I would guess it will be going here: http://goo.gl/maps/1GtE6

That indoor golf centre is no more and they are currently doing some work on the building.

Close but no cigar, I believe. From what I've heard, it will be the second location of a locally owned restaurant. I think it will do very well in the north end.

Historic church 'unlikely' to close its doors

Third Avenue Church may have a potential buyer

Reported by Fan-Yee Suen

July 31, 2012

Saskatoon's historic Third Avenue United Church, which is at risk of demolition as a result of growing financial concerns and a dwindling congregation, will "unlikely" close its doors now thanks to a mystery entrepreneur.

The congregation last week put the downtown building on the market, with the conditions that the building be preserved and that religious services continue to be performed in the 100-year-old Gothic-styled church.

Despite the restrictions -- which some say may negatively affect the selling price -- the church has "had one serious expression of interest by an entrepreneur," said John Parry, the vice-chair of the church's board, adding that he was not at liberty to identify the interested party.

As a result, the probability of the church closing is "quite unlikely," he said.

Sounds like a concept that will be welcome downtown - looking forward to the patio! Yes, it's a chain, but what were we expecting for such a location? And as far as chains go, I quite like Original Joe's, so I have high hopes for State & Main.

Great news for an incredible Stoon Landmark.
also seems too perfect for use as a university partnership of sorts...

HAL insurance/Highway Agencies is vacating their spot in that little mall directly across Millar from McDonalds. I wonder if it's going in there.

I don't know, 51st and Millar seems like an odd place for a Harvey's since it's already pretty well occupied. Maybe the Harvey's website has the streets wrong.

From what I hear, that whole corner is being torn down. Existing tenants relocating and new building/restaurant pad going up. Rumored to be second location of Original Joes.

Added diagrams for River Landing to the database. Would have added the hotel too but I don't really know what it's gonna look like. Also added one for 275 2nd Avenue.
